Jim Ramsey – Lead Singer/Guitarist
Jim joined his first band at the age of 14 and played many gigs all over London and the UK. He has played on the same bill as the likes of Madness, Bad Manners and very early Police. Jim has been writing songs since he was 15 and his first signed band was ‘Drama’. His other bands include The Fabulous Toads and Lo and Jim has constantly toured the UK and the continent as a singer/songwriter. Jim is also used to rubbing shoulders with famous musicians. When he lived in Sussex he regularly bumped into Pau McCartney and Chris Difford of Squeeze fame. Jim has played Glastonbury at east 10 occasions alongside David Gray and The Waterboys. Nowadays, Jim juggles his diary with private engagements, fundraising events for Sports and Comic Relief and all things orchestral in the form of ELO Light Years.
Mike ‘Chas’ Holcombe – Keyboards
Classically trained, Chas has been involved in music and musical activities all his life. Initially concentrating on classical piano, he branched out into more contemporary music accompanying soloists and joining bands and orchestras for numerous live shows. A founding member and MD of ELO AGAIN, he is now providing the ‘engine room’ for ELO Light Years and is also a part of the Jim Ramsey Band which debuted recently.
Richard Watson – Drums/Vocals
Perched atop the drum riser, Richard likes nothing better than to hear the intro tape roll and the opening chords of a classic ELO song hurtle from the PA system, knowing another evening of drumming for the extraordinary musicians of ELO Light Years in front of him awaits. Two hours of timeless Jeff Lynne classics later, drenched in sweat and with the audience going home happy, he can take that well-earned cuppa. As well as drumming, Richard is a seasoned pianist, accompanist and composer whose songs for Serrated Edge Theatre company have seen his gift for lyrics and composition compared to Tim Minchin and Victoria Wood. When he had a fine moustache Richard could also be seen pretending to be Jon Lord in Cheap Purple.
Robin Davey – Bass/Vocals
Robin started his musical journey playing the violin and eventually performing in the Somerset Youth Orchestra. During this time he also dabbled with the viola and the trombone, as well as guitar and bass. These two instruments became his main focus, playing bass guitar in a jazz band and later in pop/rock outfits including the Edible Decorations, the Peelers, an early incarnation of the Jim Ramsey Band and Beatles cover band, The Moondogs.
He has also enjoyed some success playing lead guitar in The Van Grahams, Diego and Safehaus who have spent much of 2017 playing in Europe.
Gaelle Favre – Violin
Gaelle was born in France and was classically trained in Oyonnax Conservatoire (near Lyon, France). She first came to the UK to be a French Teaching Assistant but her passion for the violin led her to be one of the founding members of ELO AGAIN. She settled in Wales in 2012 to become a freelance musician and performed in the UK and Europe for 4 years until the band split in May 2016. Now performing with ELO Light Years, the girl with the blue violin loves keeping the fantastic music of ELO live. Gaelle is also interested in many different musical activities – she plays a lot of Celtic music and is also part of the Jim Ramsey Band which debuted recently. For more information click here.
Sarah Waycott – Cello
As a creative and versatile freelance musician Sarah has been actively performing in the UK and abroad for over 10 years. Classically trained as a flautist, cellist, conductor and teacher Sarah enjoys spanning genres and experimenting with new styles and techniques in a way that is inclusive and exciting for audiences. As well as ELO Light Years she performs as one half of the flute and piano duo Tranquillo, an Electric flute and Harp duo, the Jim Ramsey Band and was a founding member of the tribute band ELO Again which split May 2016. Claire Brewster, Angharad Griffiths, Rhiannon Griffiths – Backing Vocalists
Claire has a degree in Performing Arts which led her to form her own theatre company called We Do Theatre. A proud mother of one daughter, Seren, Claire works as a supply teaching assistant in and around the Newport area and is loving her time as backing vocalist with ELO Light Years.
Angharad has been performing since the age of 10 in various forms from musical theatre to cover bands and also writes and performs her own material. For many years she sang solo, gigging original material from her AngharadMusic EP.
Latterly she has been joined by her sister Rhiannon and the two now write and perform original material as SHIMAI. The sisters have always loved harmonising and so joining Elo Light Years seemed a natural and great opportunity to recreate the wonderful harmonies of Electric Light Orchestra.
